We spent the weekend of July 14th and 15th at the lovely Smith Berry Barn in Hillsboro. If you haven’t been berry picking at Smith Berry Barn yet, you should. (And while you’re at it, you should visit the farm store and order a Blackberry Lavender milkshake. It’s life-changing.) The farm grows a stunning variety of berries – blueberries, raspberries, marionberries, blackberries, triple crown, etc – and they also have apple and pear orchards, chickens, goats, bee hives, herbs, flowers, hanging baskets, and more. It’s a wonderful place.
On the evening of July 14th, we were treated to an epic meal by Matthew Busetto of Firehouse Restaurant, with dessert from the amazing Gretchen Glatte of Woodlawn Coffee and Pastry. The evening featured beer pairings from Widmer Brothers Brewing, who showcased a wide array of their specialty brews, such as the Citra Blonde Ale and the Marionberry Hibiscus Gose. For July 15th, Chris Israel of Gruner and Aaron Barnett of St. Jack Restaurant collaborated to create a beautiful and inspiring meal, which was paired with wines by Love & Squalor.
Honestly, you really can’t beat dining in the middle of a pear orchard. It was two beautiful nights, filled with food, wine (and beer!), laughter, and celebration.
Our dining room for the weekend: a pear orchard.
A wagon full of perfectly ripe berries: marionberries, currants, blueberries, raspberries, and more.

Citrus cured salmon with soft boiled eggs and caper mayo, from Aaron Barnett and Chris Israel.
The Busettos. They’re wonderful.
Thanks to everyone who came out to these two fabulous dinners! We’ll be back at Smith Berry Barn in a couple of weeks.
Hope to see you there!
